WHY YOUR HELP MATTERS
As the leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living, and
social responsibility the Y works side-by-side
with our neighbors every day to make sure that everyone, regardless of age,
income, or background has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. To
do our important work, the Y relies on support from members, donors, volunteers
and community leaders just like you!
When you are involved with the Y, you help bring about lasting
personal and social change. Whether you want to nurture the potential of
children and teens, improve the health and well-being of you or your family, or
give back and support your neighbors, your involvement with the Y
will positively impact those in your community.
At the Y, we believe in prevention. We believe that it is easier to keep a child healthy than to
cure a disease. We believe that recreation
is cheaper than rehabilitation. We believe in role models. We believe in
strong characters, positive values and communities of support.
We believe prevention works:
- When
we teach them to eat well and move often, we lower their risk of disease.
- When
we model balance, laughter and play, we lower their risk of depression.
- When
we give them role models, we increase their chance for success in school.
- When
we keep them challenged and engaged, we keep them away from drugs.
- When
we help their parents raise strong kids, we help our entire community.
When you give a child a YMCA, you are giving that child safe out-of-school
care, healthy foods, active living, quality time with family, a nurturing
community and positive role models. When, together, we give this to thousands
of our children, we give our community a generation of kids who are confident,
healthy, strong and hopeful.
We believe, as it is said, that an ounce of prevention is worth a
pound of cure. Your
entire donation is designated to YMCA Youth and Family Scholarships locally,
ensuring that no child is ever turned away from the Y’s programs because of his
or her family’s inability to pay.
We believe in prevention.
